FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Joyce Masterson, 760-839-4621

The City of Escondido is considering closing Maple Street Plaza to motor vehicles at Grand Avenue and Maple Street, in addition to the existing closure at Maple and Valley Parkway. An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Room at City Hall, 201 N. Broadway, to solicit feedback from the public about this issue.

Currently vehicles may enter Maple Street Plaza from Grand Avenue as well as from the alleyway between Grand Avenue and Valley Parkway. The city is considering closing the street at Grand Avenue, but may allow delivery trucks to continue to access businesses from the alleyways.  The closure is intended to enhance pedestrian safety as well as to encourage more special events on the plaza.

If you are not able to attend the meeting but wish to send in comments, please send them to Joyce Masterson, Director of Economic Development and Community Relations at jmasterson@escondido.org or by calling 760-839-4621.
