Boil Water Advisory Lifted

Escondido City officials, in consultation with State Department of Public Health officials, have
completely lifted the boil water advisory in Escondido that was affecting 800 homes in eastern Escondido.

The water supply again is in compliance with State Department of Public Health Standards for all City of Escondido customers. Chlorine levels temporarily are being maintained at a higher, but acceptable level, to ensure the elimination of the bacteria responsible for the boil water advisory There are no health risks associated with short term exposure to increase chlorination levels.

Now that the advisory is lifted, all customers should implement the following:

• Filters/cartridges in self-installed purification systems should be replaced.
• Owners of reverse osmosis filtering systems, carbon systems or soft water systems should contact their distributor for recommendations.
• Pipes and water heaters DO NOT need to be drained unless there has been no water use in the last week.
• Refrigerator water dispensers should be flushed by running for 3-5 minutes.
• Drinking fountains should be flushed by running for approximately 3-5 minutes.
• Ice made from automatic ice makers during the past week should be discarded. Flush the system by making a new load of ice, then discard. Subsequent loads are safe to use.
• Home pools/spas do not require additional treatment above usual chlorination levels.

The City's Water Hotline (760-839-4662) will remain in operation until 8:00 pm tonight.
